Leading The Fight Against Feeder Subcontracting at UPS
Dear Feeder Brothers and Sisters,
This letter is written to provide you with recent UPS contract discussions that affect our UPS feeder drivers and how you can help us win a strong contract in 2018. Two critical issues for feeder drivers that were raised in the last round of national negotiations is the use of subcontractors and adequate staffing for our Local 396 Feeder department. Addressing these issues is critical in our efforts to secure a strong contract for feeder drivers.
During the last round of national negotiations with UPS, the Union committee dealt with Article 26 of the National Master Agreement by specifically focusing on making sure feeder operations were sufficiently staffed to address the shortage of qualified feeder drivers in various regions. Local 396 has put UPS on notice that there is a shortage of feeder drivers and that this must be immediately addressed.
The shortage of feeder drivers in our jurisdiction has contributed to subcontracting issues and consequently an erosion of feeder work. We must continue to be vigilant and file grievances against the subcontracting of our work. Most importantly, we must fight this issue together and our membership must not be divided.
In order to win a strong contract in 2018, we will send a clear message to UPS that we will not tolerate any behavior that threatens our work. Included with this letter is a sticker for your use to send a message to UPS that this a priority for every feeder driver in Local 396. The fight is on and we stand together prepared to win this battle.
Teamsters Local 396 represents UPS and Sanitation workers in Southern California. The Local Union also serves Members in other miscellaneous industries such as logistics, recycling and feed delivery services.
